Welcome to Rockwood’s Creative Design and Technology Department, an environment which is energetic, vibrant and inspiring. Expectations are set high, encouraging creativity and imagination at all times.
In Key Stage 3 students will be introduced to the different material areas in design and technology and gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the designer. The main focus of KS3 Design and Technology is to develop practical skills in our specialist kitchen and workshop. Students will become more aware of the need to select sustainable materials and resources and establish an understanding of the properties of some renewable resources. Students will design and make a variety outcomes in a variety of mediums including wood, plastic, ceramics, food and textiles.
Students can continue their creative Design and Technology journey by studying a GCSE in A&D Three-Dimensional Design. Students will develop their practical skills whilst investigating the work of artists and designers. Students complete a range of projects in Wood, Ceramics and other mixed media materials to produce unique outcomes. Students will make use of Computer Aided Design and Manufacture as part of their making experiences.
When studying food, students will build skills, knowledge and an understanding of how food is produced. Students will explore how they may consider the needs of others when planning and preparing food. Students can select a GCSE in Hospitality and Catering course, allowing students to develop knowledge and understanding of this important economic sector in the UK today.
